On the morning of the 25th of April civil society activists Artur Abashev and Yevgeny Shevnin visited the railway station in Kirov. Before check there was a meeting with the head of the station Andrei Muhlynin and the direction of the Kirov Ministry of Transport Internal Affairs Line Department. They told civil inspection on what measures are being taken for the safety of passengers and answered questions of activists.
During check of the station building social supervisors primarily paid attention to the work of the police and private security company, their treatment of citizens. Besides, they were concerned with security measures, including CCTV and metal detectors frameworks, if there is a board on terrorism threat etc.
In the line police department Abashev and Shevnin wanted to know: if there is a pen and paper for writing applications, bench and desk, toilets for visitors, whether they are adapted for the disabled, as well as the necessary legislation in accordance with the information on the stands.
Yevgeny Shevnin told «7x7» about his impressions of the check:
“They received us well, very friendly. The most important remark, in my opinion, is a dreadful hallway without cameras from the suburban hall to the the control room. A dead zone — literally and figuratively. Detainees walk here, and it is not clear what they are done with while they walk. In Russia, there were cases when people fell and damaged heads in such hallways. Chief of the station promised to solve this problem and to install a video camera there. The only thing is that we don’t know when it will happen.”
Based on the inspection results civil society activists filled up a form and indicated the identified deficiencies. These forms were transferred for summarizing to Moscow to the national campaign organizer — the Moscow Helsinki Group — and management of the Kirov Ministry of Transport Internal Affairs Line Department.
