The Perm Museum of Contemporary Art was searched as part of a criminal investigation into its former director, gallerist Marat Gelman, who faces charges of justifying terrorism. This was reported on November 21 by REN TV, citing a source.
The PERMM’s Telegram channel announced a closure for several hours, attributing it to technical reasons. Meanwhile, REN TV reported that searches were also conducted at the homes of the museum’s current director, Nailya Allakhverdiyeva, and her business associates.
Later, security forces raided the home of Igor Mishin, general producer of the KION online cinema platform. According to the Telegram channel 112, this search was connected to the "terrorism" case against Marat Gelman.
The Perm Museum of Contemporary Art, also known as PERMM, was established in 2009 with Marat Gelman as its director. He was dismissed in 2013, a move he attributed primarily to censorship.
In 2021, Marat Gelman was designated a foreign agent, and in 2022, he was declared wanted on charges of disseminating "false information" about the Russian army. Last week, he was added to the register of terrorists and extremists, reportedly in connection with the new charges of justifying terrorism.
