Residents of a high-rise building in Syktyvkar have earned 208 thousand rubles on the collection of recyclables within a year. Eco-activist Arina Sazhina organized a site for separate waste collection in the block in early 2021. The young woman has bought nine waste bins and obtained the homeowners' association’s approval to place them in the garbage collector in one of the entrance halls. Arina Sazhina told 7x7 about this.

As Arina Sazhina told 7x7’s correspondent, she and the residents of the high-rise building in 50 Bumazhnikov Street have collected 29 types of recyclables. Waste is sorted into several types at the site: plastic bottles, household chemicals' flasks, waste paper and cardboard, metal tin and aluminum cans, plastic bags and wrap. Besides, there are small containers for collecting batteries and foil in the site.

Sazhina reported that the residents had handed recyclables over 138 times within the year. In total, the activists have collected 17 thousand kg of waste. PVS LLC, Ezhvavtorsyrye LLC and other recycling companies in Syktyvkar helped Sazhina and the residents to implement the project.

“I have been working on the separate waste collection site personally from the beginning to the end. I do it with love and enthusiasm! We [the residents of the block] are sure that in the new year, we will have new like-minded people with whom we will excel in raw materials' separate collection,” the activist told 7x7.

The collected money will be used for the improvement of the residents’ block and courtyard.

Arina Sazhina launched the separate waste collection project in January 2021. The activist suggested that the Ezhvinsky Zhilkomkhoz LLC Homeowners' Association install a site for separate waste collection in an empty garbage collector in one of the block's entrance halls.

Sazhina ordered nine plastic containers from Kazan at her own expense, each costing 1.5 thousand rubles not including delivery. Some eco-activists she knows helped her to make instructing signs for waste collection. Together with Alexei Panyukov, the director of the homeowners' association, the young woman arranged the trash pickup with some companies for the purchase and processing of recyclables. An entryphone lock was installed on the door to the site — any tenant of the house can get into the room.

Most residents of the high-rise building approved the social activist’s initiative and began sorting waste. She publishes quarterly reports on how many kilograms of different kinds of waste they have given for recycling and how much money they have made off of it for the residents in a community on vk.com. The residents’ friends can also join sorting waste.
