According to one of the organizers of the event, head of the 'Returned Names' Center in St. Petersburg Anatoly Razumov, presentation of the disk with two books by Karelian researcher Yuri Dmitriev will be held on May 24 in Petrozavodsk.
The presentation will be attended by colleagues and friends of the famous historian, head of the Karelian 'Memorial' Yuri Dmitriev. A member of the Human Rights Council under the President Sergey Krivenko, a member of the board of the international society 'Memorial' Yan Rachinsky, a lawyer of Yuri Dmitriev Viktor Anufriev and head of the 'Returned Names' Center Anatoly Razumov will come to Petrozavodsk specially for this purpose.
The disk contains two memorial books, compiled by the historian: 'They are remembered by the Motherland' (about repressed Karelians) and 'Krasny Bor' (about a memorial cemetery with a list of people shot in this place). Both memorial books were not published, but, according to Anatoly Razumov, the publication of their paper versions was planned in the near future.
'Each memorial book needs a lot of time, sometimes years. I am glad that books of my colleague and friend Yuri Dmitriyev will come out in the year of the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Stalin’s terror and the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Red Terror,' Anatoly Razumov said.
Presentation of the disk will take place in the city art-space Agriculture club on May 24 from 16 to 18 hours.
The well-known historian, researcher of Stalinist repressions, head of the Karelian branch of the 'Memorial' society Yuri Dmitriev was arrested on December 13, 2016 on suspicion of making pornographic pictures of his adopted daughter. On March 9, 2017, in addition to producing pornographic materials depicting minors the historian was also accused of Article 135 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Non-violent indecent assaults') and 222 ('Illegal keeping of firearms'). On May 11, the court prolonged the period of detention of the historian for the duration of the trial, until October 22. Petrozavodsk City Court will hold a preliminary meeting on the criminal case on May 17.
In the six months that Dmitriev is in jail, hundreds of people spoke in his support: scientists, public figures, human rights activists, journalists, Orthodox priests and participants in international days in memory of victims of the Great Terror. The case of Dmitriev was discussed during the retreat of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation.
