On the evening of June 19 a boat with five teenagers capsized in the Impilahti Gulf. Two of them managed to get to the shore on their own, three have not yet been found, there is a rescue operation.
What happened
The first reports on the tragedy in Karelia were received by the Emergency Situations Ministry of Karelia at 21:20 on June 19. In the north of Lake Ladoga, a boat with five teenagers capsized. Two of them were rescued, several hundred rescuers immediately moved to find the others. According to Lenta.ru, a 16-year-old girl whose birthday, according to some sources, was celebrated by teenagers was among the missing. All the teenagers came to the lake from the neighboring Sortavala.
Course of the rescue operation
According to Interfax, the rescuers have already found a boat. Divers, helicopters, boats, rescuers have been drawn to the rescue by the Ministry of Emergency Situations inspecting the shoreline of the lake. 264 people and 55 pieces of equipment were involved at 08:30. The lives of the survivors are not threatened. 'Life' found out that the rescuers used a deepwater Falcon designed for operation in the coastal waters, because the depth of the lake in the Impilahti Bay reaches 40 meters.
Criminal case initiated
The Investigative Committee instituted criminal proceedings under part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code ('Causing death by negligence on two or more persons'). There are no suspects in the case. Investigators found that the injured children did not wear lifejackets during the trip, and the aluminum motor boat was taken from a relative of one of the teenagers. They told their parents that they were going camping.

According to 'Life', the investigators began a survey of two surviving teenagers. Igor D., who ran the boat, twisted the steering wheel of the ship too much, so it turned upside down. Igor himself is one of two surviving children.
A year ago
A year ago, on June 18, 2016, 14 teenagers who spent time in a children's camp perished on Lake Syamozero, 160 km from Impilahti. Their boats capsized during a storm. On June 18, 2017, there were mourning events dedicated to their memory.
