The European Court of Human Rights will consider a complaint of the Center for Social and psychological assistance and legal support to victims of discrimination and homophobia "Maximum" on the entry of the public organization in the register of "foreign agents".
According to the applicants, entry of the organization in the register of NGOs that perform the functions of foreign agents violated three articles of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, guaranteeing the right to freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association and freedom from discrimination.
«We did not have an impartial and independent review of our situation in the Russian courts. We produced arguments but they were not taken to the attention of the judges. Also, the Constitutional Court decision was not dominant for Murmansk judges. Therefore we are looking for justice in the ECHR,» director of "Maximum" Sergei Alekseenko said.
"Maximum" was fined 300 thousand rubles for failing to register as a non-profit organization acting as a foreign agent in March 2015.
