The Committee for Health and Social Care of the Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk Krai endorsed a draft law on payments to students who give birth to their first child before turning 23. Deputies are set to review the proposal on October 10, according to the statement made by the regional parliament’s press office on October 1.
The payment of 100,000 rubles will be available for both childbirth and adoption. However, if the child dies, the application for the payment will be denied.
In July, a similar law was passed in Karelia, where students who become mothers also receive 100,000 rubles. In cases of stillbirth, however, the payment is revoked. Since August, student couples in Chelyabinsk Oblast have been eligible for a 1 million rubles payment for having a child.
Between January and June 2024, Rosstat recorded the lowest birth rate ever observed in Krasnoyarsk Krai. In September, Semyon Sendersky, a Krasnoyarsk City Council deputy, suggested paying 500,000 rubles for births on Russia Day, June 12.
