On September 9, the Omsk Oblast Court sentenced Sergey Kozlov, a former Wagner PMC mercenary, to 19 years in a penal colony for the brutal murder of a pregnant woman (Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), according to the court’s press office.
The prosecution stated that in December 2023, Sergey Kozlov killed his 18-year-old partner, Darya, following a conflict at a home party, allegedly caused by her breaking the man's speaker.
Kozlov repeatedly struck Darya on the head with the speaker, kicked her, and attacked witnesses who attempted to intervene. He then jumped on her chest and abdomen while yelling that she wasn’t worthy of carrying his child.
In July 2021, Kozlov had been sentenced to 6.5 years in a penal colony for inflicting bodily harm. According to the "Ostorozhno, Novosti" channel, he had assaulted a woman and her daughter with an axe. Afterward, Kozlov joined the Wagner PMC and went to war, returning home in the summer of 2023.
In late August 2024, Wagner PMC member Yury Ivanov was killed in Ukraine. He had rejoined the war after assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, who was later diagnosed with head trauma, a fractured rib, broken fingers, and multiple cuts and bruises. The victim also suffered a miscarriage. Human rights defenders successfully pushed for a criminal case to be opened against the abuser.
