Priests of the Russian Orthodox Church conducted a church service near the oil depot in Proletarsk, which has been burning for four days following a drone attack. Photos of the service were published by the Volgodonsk Diocese on August 20.
The Volgodonsk Diocese brought an icon to a field near the oil depot and shared a report of the service on their Telegram channel. A prayer for the health of the firefighters injured while on duty was also performed on the grounds of the municipal hospital.
As of August 21, the number of injured has risen to 42. Over 500 people are currently battling the fire in Proletarsk. Another tank exploded yesterday evening, and the smell of burning and smoke reached Rostov-on-Don.
The oil tanks in Proletarsk caught fire on August 18 due to a drone attack. A rescuer who organized a crowdfunding campaign for his injured colleagues mentioned the risk of being fired, but after the incident gained public attention, management reconsidered his dismissal.
