On August 12, the court sentenced Konstantin Polezhayev, former deputy governor of Belgorod Oblast, to five years in a penal colony and imposed a fine of 36 million rubles. According to FONAR.TV, the time he spent under house arrest will be deducted from his sentence.
Konstantin Polezhayev, former mayor of Belgorod and deputy governor of Belgorod Oblast, delivered his final plea in court, stating that he "deserves punishment" and revealing that he signed a military contract six days ago.
The politician was convicted of accepting bribes in the form of two cars valued at 17 million rubles. Polezhayev claimed that he did not understand why the bribe amount was calculated in this manner.
Polezhayev was detained in July 2023. Investigators allege that he assisted an organization in securing contracts and ensuring the acceptance of constructed wastewater treatment facilities.
Shortly before his arrest, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov criticized Polezhayev for the "poor organization of work on rebuilding homes in Shebekino and Novaya Tavolzhanka" and subsequently relieved him of his duties as deputy governor.
