Sergey Serebrennikov, the mayor of Bratsk in Irkutsk Oblast and former head of the local FSB (Federal Security Service) division, addressed French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz while congratulating residents on Victory Day. The video appeal was published on the mayor’s Telegram channel.
The official claimed to closely monitor the decisions made by European leaders and suggested that they recall history lessons.
"Macron, what are you doing? Your troops were near Moscow, and ours reached Paris. Scholz, what are you doing? Your army was on our land, and ours seized Berlin. Our men have a keen historical memory of the road to Europe even today, and if necessary, they will reach both Berlin and Paris," said Serebrennikov.
The mayor of Bratsk traditionally wears an FSB uniform and medals for Victory Day celebrations. Last year, he promised locals to 'secure victory' in 2023, as noted by the ‘People of Baikal’ media outlet.
In March 2022, Serebrennikov made news headlines again when he led a motorcade on 'Katyusha' during the event titled 'Za Pobedu' ('For Victory'). The city hall used illumination styled as a 'Z,' the letter actively used as a symbol of the war in Ukraine.
