Anastasia Korshunova, a parent with multiple children, has been fined 30,000 rubles ($330) by a Kursk court for a protest picket in which she did not participate. She was detained by the police on her way to the event. The court decision was reported by human rights activist and chairman of the "Civil Alliance of Russia," Oleg Filatchev, on July 27.

The court imposed a fine on Anastasia Korshunova for discrediting the army. She was found responsible for a solitary picket against the war in Ukraine and in support of political prisoners on June 4, Alexei Navalny's birthday. However, the action did not materialize as she had been detained before the picket. The police claimed she had still managed to unfold her poster before being apprehended.

During the court proceedings, the defense requested video surveillance camera footage from the place of detention, but the judge declined the request.

On July 15, Korshunova was fined 10,000 rubles ($110) for the same failed picket, accused of non-compliance with picketing rules. Human rights activist Oleg Filatchev argues that one cannot be punished twice for the same violation. The activist will be appealing the fine.

On June 4, actions marking Alexei Navalny's birthday took place in dozens of cities. The police detained at least 127 individuals in 28 cities across the country.
