Alsu Kurmasheva has been sentenced to 6.5 years in a penal colony for editing the book titled "No to War." This information was shared on July 22 by the Associated Press, citing the court’s press secretary, Natalia Loseva.

On July 19, the Supreme Court of Tatarstan found Alsu Kurmasheva, the deputy head of the Tatar-Bashkir division of Radio Liberty, guilty of spreading fake information about the army (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The criminal case against the journalist is associated with the book "No to War. Fourty Stories of Russians Opposing the Invasion of Ukraine," published in November 2022. Kurmasheva worked on it as an editor.

Alsu Kurmasheva was arrested and placed in a pre-trial detention center in October 2023, when she came to Russia for personal reasons and tried to return to Czechia. She was fined 10,000 rubles in a criminal case for failing to fulfill the obligations of a foreign agent. In December, she faced new charges for spreading fake information.
