Roman Alekhin, a Kursk-based blogger and former advisor to the governor, has been reported for publishing photos of the shelling in the town of Rylsk. He shared this on social media on December 27.
Blogger Roman Alekhin from Kursk posted a message he received from a police officer, notifying him about the launch of an investigation into his post, which contained photos of sites in Rylsk that were shelled on December 20.
The blogger suggested that the report was filed at the initiative of Mikhail Gorbunov, head of the Kursk Oblast Committee of Regional Security, as a way to "prove his loyalty and offer a gift" to Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein.
"I don’t want to believe that this was Khinshtein’s own doing, as this is the region where I was born and where I’ve chosen to stay despite having had many opportunities to leave," Alekhin said.
In March 2024, the Kursk Oblast Operational Headquarters banned the publication of photos showing drone attacks on the region, air defense sites, Russian servicemen, and locations hit by shelling.
Roman Alekhin is both a blogger and a military volunteer. He was appointed advisor to Acting Governor Alexey Smirnov in July 2024 but lost the position in September after Smirnov’s election victory. The Ploshchad ("Square") media outlet linked Alekhin’s dismissal to his alleged fraud conviction and "public disputes."
