Magomed Omarov, the head of the Sergokalinsky District in Dagestan, has been relieved of his duties following news that his sons might have participated in a terrorist attack on June 23. This information was shared with journalists by Sergey Melikov, the head of the republic.
"I will not comment on the degree of his guilt or his involvement in this tragedy; this is the responsibility of investigative bodies," added Melikov.
According to Baza, during an interrogation following his arrest, Omarov admitted that he had known for several years that his children were Wahhabis. However, he claimed that he had not been in touch with his sons in recent years.
'7x7' discovered that Omarov was born and raised in the village of Sergokala and headed the Sergokalinsky District for almost 14 years. In one interview, he boasted about raising eight sons.
As per media outlets, Osman and Adil Omarov were involved in the terrorist attack in Makhachkala. Osman was killed during a shootout with law enforcement officers, but Adil’s name is not on the list of the deceased.
The 'Voice of Dagestan' channel claims that Osman Omarov set fire to a synagogue in Makhachkala and shared a video of it in a neighbors' chat. '7x7' found out that Osman had worked at a cognac factory and then at a construction company. In 2022, he tried to sell a plot of land with an unfinished house near "government dachas."
The Republic of Dagestan came under a terrorist attack on June 23. Armed terrorists attacked an Orthodox church and synagogue in Derbent, as well as a synagogue and a cathedral in Makhachkala. Twenty people died, including at least 15 law enforcement officers.
