Human rights activists have started raising funds to hire a lawyer for the local young woman who lost her child after being beaten by a Wagner PMC member. This information was shared by the 'You are not alone, Yakutia is with you' project on March 22.
A young woman reached out to the 'You are not alone, Yakutia is with you' community after she was severely beaten by her boyfriend in late 2023. Doctors noted head trauma, a fractured ninth rib, broken fingers, as well as multiple cuts and bruises. The injuries she sustained while in late pregnancy led to the loss of her child.
At first, the police refused to initiate a legal case; however, the community helped the young woman lodge a complaint on the law enforcement’s inaction with the prosecutor’s office, and the initial decision was reconsidered. According to the victim’s information, the case is currently being classified as the intentional causing of moderate bodily harm (Article 112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). It is not yet known whether it also includes charges of causing grievous bodily harm or threats of murder.
According to the 'You are not alone, Yakutia is with you' project, the man is a former convict who was released after serving time with the Wagner PMC. The community’s members assert that he has already been apprehended and placed in a pre-trial detention center.
The young woman requires medical and psychological rehabilitation, as well as the services of a lawyer. Those willing to help may follow the link to find more information.
The 'You are not alone, Yakutia is with you' project emerged in late 2023 after the brutal murder of another local woman, Nadezhda Ammosova. She was lured into an apartment by her boyfriend and his friend, who spent several hours beating and torturing her to death, and then tried to hide the body.
The project’s activists provide psychological and legal aid, highlight cases of violence, and disseminate information on how to support victims.
