On November 28, the Zavyalovsky District Court of Udmurtia sentenced lawyer Dmitry Talantov to seven years in a penal colony for disseminating "false information" about the army (Article 207.3 of the Russian Criminal Code) and inciting hatred (Article 282 of the Russian Criminal Code), according to the regional courts’ press service.

The court also prohibited Dmitry Talantov from posting online for four years. The lawyer maintained his innocence throughout the trial.

Talantov was detained in June 2022 over several anti-war posts on Facebook*. In one of these posts, he described the actions of the Russian army in Mariupol, Irpin, and Bucha as "rather Nazi-like practices."

Dmitry Talantov previously served as the defense lawyer for journalist Ivan Safronov, who was sentenced to 22 years in a penal colony for treason in September 2022. Talantov also acted as the head of Udmurtia’s Chamber of Advocates for over 20 years but was removed from his position in January 2023.
