Over the past year, 2,600 out of 5,700 divorced couples in Chechnya were reconciled, the pro-government outlet Grozny Inform reported on November 27.

According to the report, interdepartmental working groups have conducted "22,720 reconciliation events" since their formation. These efforts involved local officials, law enforcement agencies, civil registry office employees, clergymen, and elders, though the specific methods used remain undisclosed.

"Even one preserved family signifies the triumph of reason over false emotions, of good over harm. However, these numbers do not give us the right to stop," said Aslan Abdulaev, an official from the Administration of the Head and Government of the Chechen Republic.

Commissions on "marriage and family affairs" were established by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. According to Caucasian Knot, they have been active since 2017.

In December, the State Duma will review a draft law requiring couples with children to attend a psychologist’s consultation before filing for divorce. The authors of the initiative believe it will strengthen family values and reduce the number of divorces.
