The Irkutsk resident who shot a military commissar has cut himself and declared a hunger strike in pre-trial detention. He has been placed in a punishment cell for 25 days, as reported by the 'People of Baikal' on July 4.
Ruslan Zinin has been placed in a punishment cell twice in a row, totaling 25 days, according to the 'People of Baikal.'
First, he was punished with 10 days in solitary confinement for refusing to change cells. The next day, Zinin declared a hunger strike because his mother, who had traveled for 24 hours to reach the detention center, was not allowed to see him. He did not eat for eight days and lost a significant amount of weight. He underwent a medical examination in the pre-trial detention center and was given IV fluids. Zinin was then assigned another 15 days in the punishment cell for cutting himself, though his injuries were minor.
During the early days of the mobilization, Zinin's cousin received a draft notice. Shortly before, an acquaintance of his had died in Ukraine. On September 26, 2022, Ruslan Zinin went to a military enlistment office in Ust-Ilimsk, where military commissar Alexander Yeliseyev was addressing conscripts. When someone in the audience asked, "Where are we going?" Ruslan pulled out a sawed-off shotgun and said, "We will all go home now!" before firing two shots at Yeliseyev.
The commissar survived and was discharged from the hospital a month and a half later. Ruslan Zinin was found guilty of terrorism and illegal possession and production of weapons. In January, the court sentenced him to 19 years in prison.
