Former head of the Kortkerossky District, Alexander Arteyev, died in the war zone in Ukraine on June 27, as reported by his friend Sergey Semyashkin on VK.
Alexander Arteyev went to war from a penal colony. In 2023, the court found him guilty of receiving bribes from commercial organization leaders. He was sentenced to 13 years in a maximum-security colony and fined 5 million rubles.
From 2012 to 2018, Arteyev served as the deputy head of the Kortkerossky District administration. He also acted as the head of the administration for several months after the previous head, Vasily Goncharenko, was arrested on suspicion of bribery.
Another official from Komi attempted to avoid criminal punishment by joining the war effort. Former mayor of Pechora, Valery Serov, is currently in pre-trial detention, charged with large-scale bribery. Investigators allege that Serov received 4 million rubles for awarding contracts to an entrepreneur without holding tenders.
Serov’s lawyers requested the suspension of the bribery case so that he could join the war effort. However, their request was denied, prompting them to file a complaint. The court dismissed their appeal, leaving Serov in pre-trial detention.
