Aleksei Levin, the former head of Penal Colony No. 6 in Klintsy, Bryansk Oblast, was killed in the war in Ukraine and buried on June 2. This information was shared on social media by Levin’s former colleague, Oleg Minakov.
According to a '7x7' source, the 49-year-old Levin served in an assault troop as a contracted soldier and died on May 8 near the Kolomyichikha settlement in the Svatovsky district of Luhansk Oblast. It is believed that he was deployed to the war zone from the penal colony.
In July 2023, Levin was sentenced to nine years in prison for receiving bribes in the form of money and repair work in exchange for signing state contracts for the delivery of raw materials to Penal Colony No. 6. This verdict took into account a previous conviction.
Two years earlier, in June 2021, Levin was sentenced to three years and four months in prison for negligence related to the death of inmate Roman Sarychev, who was fatally beaten by Sergey Shevtsov, an employee of the penal colony. Shevtsov himself was acquitted.
Another inmate died from asphyxiation in Penal Colony No. 6 in 2018 after being handcuffed to a table and having a cloth wrapped around his face. Investigators determined that Levin contributed to the crimes by failing to enforce the use of body cameras, which could have recorded the incidents.
