A court in Vladikavkaz has sentenced Madina Kabaloyeva, a pregnant servicewoman, to six years in a penal colony for failure to report to her unit. The court decision was reported by "Kommersant" on September 17.

Madina Kabaloyeva from Kabardino-Balkaria has been sentenced to six years in a general regime colony for failure to report for duty during mobilization without a valid reason. According to "Kommersant," this is the first such sentence for a servicewoman in Russia.

During the mobilization, Kabaloyeva, a pregnant mother with a young child, received a recommendation from her unit’s medical office to be temporarily discharged from service. However, according to the prosecutor's office, the woman had not quit the service and continued to enjoy military personnel’s benefits.

On appeal, the court has confirmed Kabaloyeva's sentence. The verdict states that the punishment imposed on her "takes into account the nature and degree of public danger of the committed acts."

Kabaloyeva has received a reprieve on the sentence until 2032 when her eldest child will be 14 years old.

In the summer of 2023, Russian regions began actively advertising army contracts for women. In Omsk, the offers included working as cooks or medical personnel. In the Belgorod region, women were encouraged to join territorial defense units. In Krasnoyarsk, the media published a story about Olesya Didenko, a mother of three, who went to war, having lost 72 kilograms to get fit for service.
