The widow of Kirill Maksakov has received a response from the military Prosecutor's office informing her that the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over her husband’s death. Kirill Maksakov died on June 1 in the Belgorod region, near the border with Ukraine. The prosecutor's office has not specified the nature of the potential charges or persons involved in the investigation.

The Central Military District commanders have promised the widow to investigate the incident and hold accountable those found responsible for her husband’s death. They also confirmed that the conscripts were deployed to the border with Ukraine "to support the border guard troops."

Maksakov was conscripted from Krasnoturyinsk, the Sverdlovsk region. He died on June 1, along with two fellow soldiers, when their vehicle came under fire near the town of Borisovka in the Belgorod region.


Two sources have confirmed to 7x7 that another conscript died in a shelling near the border with Ukraine in the Belgorod border on August 24. Two others were seriously wounded. This news brings the total count of conscripts who have lost their lives on the border to at least 11.
