The court did not grant the request of Igor Baryshnikov, a resident of Kaliningrad who had been found guilty of spreading false information about the army, to attend his mother's funeral. The woman passed away 1.5 months after her son's verdict was announced. This information was reported by the "New Kaliningrad" publication on August 9.

Igor Baryshnikov appealed to the court to allow him to attend the funeral under law enforcers’ escort. His request has been rejected, as his lawyer, Maria Bonzler, informs.

Until he was sentenced to 7.5 years in a penal colony, Igor Baryshnikov had been caring for his 96-year-old mother, Yevgenia. Following his sentencing, his wife has been looking after the elderly woman. On August 7, Yevgenia Baryshnikova passed away, 1.5 months after her son's conviction.

In June 2023, 64-year-old Igor Baryshnikov received a 7.5-year prison sentence for disseminating false information about the military due to his anti-war posts. Human rights activists were raising concerns that the sentence could prove fatal not only for Baryshnikov, who may have cancer, but also for his paralyzed 96-year-old mother, Yevgenia. "OVD-Info" initiated a petition in support of Igor Baryshnikov.

Living with a catheter in his bladder, Baryshnikov needs regular medical attention. He is currently being held in the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center. His lawyer, Maria Bonzler, indicates that the conditions there are comparable to those in the detention center but with access to doctors and other medical personnel.
