Sociologist Boris Kargalitsky has been remanded to pre-trial detention by a court in Komi. He is facing charges of justifying terrorism due to a post he made in October 2022 regarding an explosion of the Crimean Bridge. A 7x7 correspondent reported this development from the courtroom on July 26.

The Syktyvkar city court decided to detain sociologist Boris Kargalitsky as a measure of restraint. He will be held in a pre-trial detention center in the town of Verkhny Chov until at least September 24.

Kargalitsky has been accused of justifying terrorism based on a post he made on a Telegram channel on October 8, 2022, regarding an explosion on the Crimean Bridge. The sociologist has expressed his disagreement with the accusation, considering it a politically motivated decision.

Viktor Vorobyov, a member of the Komi State Council, who, like Kargalitsky, is recognized as a foreign agent in Russia, served as the surety in this case.

A similar terrorism justification case related to a comment about an attack on the Crimean Bridge has already been tried in Komi. The defendant in that case was teacher Nikita Tushkanov, who received a sentence of 5.5 years. Tushkanov pleaded not guilty.
