On the morning of August 24, searches were carried out in Yekaterinburg at the house and office of a public figure and ex-mayor Yevgeny Roizman. A criminal case was initiated against the politician under part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation after bringing to administrative responsibility for a similar act. In Yekaterinburg on the morning of August 24, security forces came to search the apartment of the ex-mayor, opposition public figure Yevgeny Roizman. Searches also took place in the office of the charitable foundation and in the Museum of the Nevyansk Icon, which Roizman founded in 1999. The politician told reporters that he was accused of repeatedly discrediting the Army. Under Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, he faces up to three years in prison.

After several hours of searches, Roizman was taken to the investigation department, where he was examined. TASS, citing a source in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported that a criminal case against Roizman was sued in Moscow and should have been transferred to the capital for a preventive measure. However, today the police detained Yevgeny Roizman for 48 hours. He remains in the holding cell in Yekaterinburg.

Since the middle of the day, actions in support of Roizman have been held in Yekaterinburg. People came to his office and the museum of the Nevyansk icon with posters, who were helped by the Roizman Foundation. On the evening of August 24, a silent protest began on the square of 1905. A few minutes after it began, the police began to detain its participants.

Roizman participated in protests while serving as mayor. In February 2014, he went on a picket in support of the prisoners in the Bolotnaya case. On March 15, he took part in actions against censorship in the media and the annexation of Crimea.

In April 2022, a protocol was drawn up against Evgeny Roizman for disrespecting the authorities for a tweet about Sergey Lavrov. In April, he received three fines for discrediting the Russian Army for a total of 150,000 rubles. His lawyer tried to appeal the court's decisions, but the court upheld all the fines.
