The Zvenigovsky district court sentenced a 66-year-old local resident to two years' imprisonment on probation for publications in social networks that were recognized as extremist.

The verdict has not entered into legal force yet.

The court found the man guilty of committing a crime under part 1 of Article 282 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Raising hatred, enmity, and humiliating the human dignity of a group of individuals'). According to the investigation, from May 2014 to November 2016, he posted videos, comments to them and texts on 'VKontakte' that, according to the examination, were aimed at inciting hatred and enmity and humiliation of dignity. These publications were deleted from his page.

In April 2016, the city court of Yoshkar-Ola sentenced civil activist Yevgeny Pirogov to two years in prison for publications on the social network that were recognized as extremist.
