On June 27, police officers interrupted a meeting of human rights defenders from Italy and members of the PMC.

According to chairman of the Mari El Public Monitoring Commission Olga Vasilyeva, administrative protocols have been drawn up for each of the five employees of the Antigone organization. Human rights activists are accused of violating the regime of stay in Russia.

'Police officers say that the activities of foreign guests do not correspond to the one indicated in the visa. At the same time, Antigone employees received tourist visas on the basis of the program of their stay in Russia,' Olga Vasilyeva said.

According to Russian human rights activists accompanying them, but human rights defenders from Italy can be fined, but not deported from the country.

Police officers arrived at a meeting of representatives of the PMC and 'Antigone' at the request of a resident of Kazan, Timofey Dragunov. The police presented this document to the participants of the meeting. Its photo was published on Facebook.

Italian human rights activists from the organization 'Antigone', which deals with public control in prisons, arrived in Mari El on June 25. They held meetings at the federal penitentiary service in the republic, talked with members of the regional PMC and representatives of public councils under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the management of the Federal Penitentiary Service. On June 27, Italian human rights activists went to Nizhny Novgorod, they will return to Yoshkar-Ola on June 28.
