'Transparency International – Russia' has restarted the project 'Transparency of non-profit organizations' to increase the transparency of Russian NGOs and the system of their state support.
The project site has a database of NGOs receiving presidential grants, and this is the largest channel of state support for non-profit organizations, according to Transparency. The authors of the project plan to regularly publish research on the openness of Russian NGOs and monitor the distribution of public funds to support public organizations. The specialists of 'Transparency International – Russia' developed a manual on increasing the transparency and accountability of organizations. They are convinced that the introduction of best disclosure practices is necessary to enhance mutual trust between the state, society and non-profit organizations.
'When some non-profit organizations are financed through non-transparent channels of public and private financing, while others are used as a basis for building corrupt schemes, reducing the level of credibility of the truly functioning NGOs; the public's task is to pay close attention to issues of information disclosure, public reporting, ethics and transparency,' the project coordinator Anastasia Ivolga said.
