On May, 23 members of the Komi Human Rights Commission "Memorial" intend to hold a picket in Lipetsk at the recently installed bust of former general secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU. As indicated in the notice sent to the local authorities, "the purpose of the event is the expression of resentment on the installation of a monument to Stalin in Lipetsk, a reminder to the public (including the Communists) and the authorities of the city of the monstrous crimes of Stalin."

“In modern times it is wrong to present Stalin only as a great man and forget the terrible things he did. He easily broke thousands of lives. Now there are people who have gone through this, remember this. It [the installation of the bust] is a challenge to them. First of all, Stalin is violence, death, and torture. And installation of the bust doesn’t unite the society, on the contrary, it splits,” the chairman of "Memorial" Igor Sazhin said.

Three members of the Komi Human Rights Commission will go from Syktyvkar to Lipetsk. They had planned their picket for 14:30. Now public activists are waiting for an official response from the administration of Lipetsk.
