Early in the morning the 30 Arctic Sunrise defendants were transferred to St. Petersburg by rail as the counts are beyond jurisdiction of courts in the Murmansk region. Speculations of this movement appeared a week ago, but this information was not confirmed. Some lawyers are already in the “Northern Capital”, but the rest are on their way. As soon as the information about the arrival of the activists would become available, Greenpeace members intend to render assistance to their colleagues.
“The transfer of the Greenpeace activists from pre-trial detention of Murmansk to pre-trial detention centres of St. Petersburg started today. Around 5 a.m. the people boarded a transport, including two trucks, in Murmansk. And at 9 a.m. they were taken towards St. Petersburg in a special train carriage for the prisoners.” Maria Favorskaya, a spokeswoman for Greenpeace Russia, said.
